sThe first Festival del Cante de las Minas was held in October 1961.

Although the poster includes a guitar, in fact, it started as a competition for flamenco cante – singing.

After the first two years, the month of the Festival moved to August.

On the 30 July 2010 the Museo del Cante de las Minas was inaugurated. 

The museum is located at the Casa del Piñón, Calle Mayor 55, La Unión and is open to the public from 9am until 2pm, Mondays–Fridays. This photograph below is a model of the old markets, where the competition has been held each year since 1978. Behind it is a collection of posters, some of which you can see in this blog and other La Unión blogs.
