Located in the heart of North Beach, the Purple Onion opened in 1952 and although it is most famously remembered as a beat music venue and comedy club used by Phyllis Diller, Barbra Streisand, and Woody Allen, it also hosted some fine flamenco artists, including Carmen Amaya.
