The Ayuntamiento of Algeciras has opened a Book of Condolence for Paco de Lucía.
There, they have written:
Francisco Sánchez Gómez, Paco de Lucía, hijo predilecto de Algeciras y la más grande figura que haya tenido el mundo de la guitarra, falleció el 26 de febrero de 2014. A través de esta web queremos que entre todos traslademos nuestro apoyo a sus familiares y amigos. Su legado, su música, su manera genial de interpretar, su carácter y su cariño hacia su tierra, perdurarán para siempre.
A mural with the above photograph, measuring 2 metres by 5 metres, has been placed in the Ayuntamiento of Algeciras. There people can leave flowers and there is also a Book of Condolence.
A Chapel is being prepared in the Auditorio Nacional of Madrid for Friday 28 February 2014, when Paco de Lucía’s body will return to Spain. This chapel will be open to the public from 13.00 until 18.00 for people to pay their respects. The coffin will then be transferred to Algeciras, where a chapel has been prepared in the Salón de Plenos of the Casa Consistorial of the Ayuntamiento of Algeciras; This will be open to the public who wish to pay their respects, from 00.30 on Saturday 1 March 2014 until 12.30. The funeral ceremony in the church of Nuestra Señora de la Palma on Saturday 1 March 2014 will commence at 13.00. Paco de Lucía will be buried in the old cemetery of Algeciras, in the patio San José, near to his parents. This part of the ceremony is strictly for family members only.
